Scripture Memory Challenge - July 1

I can't believe the year is half over! I hope you are being blessed through this memorization process. I sure am! I am copying Amber's verse from last month. It's the WMU theme for the next two years, it is the race them for the 5K, and it speaks volumes to living for Jesus.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Hebrews 12:1

I daily have to remind myself that hinderances come in many forms...and some of them appear innocent and noble. Like people...people who seem harmless but everytime we get together I notice that our talk is not building others up. We are gossiping but coloring it so that it is not so obvious. Because we can justify...it's not gossip if it is truthful. Anybody with me??? But does it build someone up or tear them down? Not all truthful news is worth repeating. This is an area I get convicted regularly...what is coming out of my mouth???

So let's hear your verse...or use this one! =)

  1. You know what is really funny is that i was clearing a notebook out this evening. Maggie has a habit of grabbing my little notebooks and drawing on alot of pages. It happened to be a book that I took to Caswell in 2009. We had a class or maybe even the main speaker that spoke about being the Champion on the Hill. It uses the Hebrews 12 scripture. So I actually read my old notes tonight and then I read your post. - WOW. Since I am not up to running just yet I found this scripture circled in other notes that is more inline with me physically right now. I definitely hope it's me spiritually. So Galatians 5:25 is my verse. "Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit" Stepping I can handle....don't wanna outrun God.

  2. I am going with Hebrews 12:2 this time.

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

It makes me think about something Mr. Billie said in a sermon a couple of weeks ago.... We have to focus on Jesus and not worry so much about what is going on to the right or the left of us. When it comes down to it God will bring into your path what he wants you to handel as long as you stay focused on him. It makes me think of when I am driving or walking for that matter. I really have to stay focused on where I am heading. I hate driving on long trips because I cannot look at the scenery so well. If I turn my eyes to the left my hands tend to go that way as well. When walking if I turn to look at the person I am talking to, my feet tend to go that ways as well. Just I must make myself disciplined when I am driving or walking to stay focused on where I am heading, I find that I also have to do that spiritually as well!
