SMC - Feb 15th 2012

Howdy! Hope everyone is having a fabulous week! Tonight was church night so I am filled up and ready to finish the week strong in the Lord! I love mid week prayer service because my tank usually needs refilling by Wed. Tim's message on caring for the poor was very timely. If you missed it, read the story of the rich man and Lazarus the beggar in Luke...ch 16. And then donate to Backpack Buddies *wink*.

OK...my verse this time is an old testament...and I am picking the last portion to actually memorize. I will post the entire verse for context. But the last part has become my theme verse over the years.

2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV) "Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said "Who am I, O Soverign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?"

Think about that one...look around you at your blessings. From the smallest to the greatest. There are blessings we have that we are not even aware of. Often times I ask...who am I? A Sinner. Plain and Simple. That is who I am. And I just praise God for grace. undeserved, unmerited...grace. It's amazing. Thank you Jesus for saving me.

What's your verse?

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - Feb 1st 2012

Howdy Ladies!
It's Scripture Memory Challenge Day...yay!!!

This time I am memorizing Gal 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up". NIV

How many of you know what a "dry spell" is? And no...I don't mean the weather! I have been in a sort of spiritual dry spell myself the last few months. Most of you have probably noticed...if you know me well. I just haven't been myself. I have felt like I was in some kind of a spiritual slump...almost a fog. Don't get me wrong, I have still been doing my daily Bible read through and loving Jesus with all my heart, soul and mind...but I haven't been seeking Him with all my heart, soul and mind...and believe me there is a difference in loving Jesus and seeking Jesus. I have no excuse other than...I got lazy!

In my non-theological view..."loving" Jesus is fairly easy...it's kind of like loving your parents or your kids or your friends. It is natural. Afterall, we love because He first loved us...in relationships in life most people that love us, we love them back. It is rewarding. It is joyful. It requires no real "work". Just a feeling/emotion. However, "love" is surface at times and at times even shallow if we are willing to be honest.

"Seeking" Jesus is much harder...it is filling up all your spare time with His Word, prayer, Bible Study. It is dying to self with every decision of every minute of every day. It is a 24/7 me-last and Jesus-first and others-second mentality. It is serving others when you would much rather slap them. Did I mention it is hard? It is anything but natural. BUT the reward is VERY BIG. and well, very personal and intimate. I would even say the reward is AWESOME. A word that is widely overused today to describe things that are in fact not awesome. I can think of so many words to use but honestly the reward from seeking Jesus is...basically indescribable.

I have been missing that in my life the last few months...but I am back...and I intend to do some good...I am not going to grow weary...because the Bible tells me so...

and it starts...with hiding His Word in my heart...so that what my mouth spills out from the overflow of the heart...is full of Jesus's Words not mine! How sweet would that be?

Anyone else want to commit to the challenge this year?? Click the SMC Intro on the side of the page for the details.

Let's hear your verse.

In Him,

Stay tuned...I am reading an AMAZING new book...and I cannot wait to tell you about it!!!

Homeward Bound...God is GOOD!!! and SMC

Good evening ladies! Well, it's actually your afternoon ;)

Please pray for travelling mercies for me...I am heading home early...yeehaw! I finished up my meetings today so I am flying out tomorrow! I am so excited! It has been a long 8 days! And I am ready to run...literally...Jill if you read this get your shoes ready!!! seriously...

But I survived and I actually enjoyed most of it. You want to know how I survived? 'Cause Sunday came!

First confession...I am (was) WAY behind on my Bible Study homework. I don't know what happened. Normally I stay on top of it...but I didn't this time. Granted I do not think God wanted me to get behind in my homework but I do believe God gives you exactly what you need when you need it. In fact sometimes I think He re-writes the pages of Bible Study to custom fit my situation.

You don't agree? Check this...this is what was in my homework on Sunday the day after my meltdown of homesickness...I should have done this homework on week 5 (currently we are on week 7 but two weeks ago I was at home probably surrounded by family and friends)...

"Solitary places can be used by God or satan". ummm..what did you say Beth Moore? "Solitary places can be used by God or satan". And the question was "In the margin list a few ways we might know if our times of isolation are being used by God or the enemy". ahhhhhhhhhh

You see I truly believe this trip is the VERY first time I have ever been in complete isolation. I have never traveled out of the country by myself. On a different time zone to talk to anyone I love. In a place where my language is not the primary language. And everyone on the street nods but doesn't want to speak when you pass by.

On Sunday when I read that I could have gone outside and screamed...God is so GOOD. And so AWESOME. And so IN CONTROL. Even when we feel like things are out of control. Things are in God's CONTROL. His PERFECT CONTROL. And in isolation if we seek HIM with all our heart...He will meet us...right there in isolation.

So I made good use of Sunday...loving Jesus...and on Monday...I had one of the best days ever!

See y'all sooner than planned!

In Him,
Kristy =)

PS - My verse is...Ps 33:4 "For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does".

SMC - Nov 1, 2011

I finally chose. I narrowed the list to 9 and played innie, meanie, miney, mo =)

Seriously, I chose this scripture because it never hurts to remember to stay humble.
James 4:10 "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. "

But then the blog crashed and I lost a long story and had to start over. So maybe I should have picked James 4:7 which was also on my list..."Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Because satan needs to FLEE from my blog attempts! ha

Stay in His Word ladies...

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - Oct 15th 2011 (a little early!)

I have another funny story about the song I posted about yesterday (Strong Enough to Save). Well not really about the song but more involving the song. =) This morning I got work and that song came on as I was pulling in the parking lot at 8:04am. It is my favorite y’all so I decided I would listen to it in the car before I came in. I mean you are already 4 minutes late…what is 3 more!

When I parked I noticed a man get out of his car on the row in front of me and just stand there looking at my car. So I assumed what every good woman running late would assume…”oh dear I must have cut him off or followed him to close!” Well he continued to stare and by now the song was well into the chorus and I was feeling a bit uncomfortable. So I decided to crawl out and face whatever horrible driving I had done. I got out and headed across to the building and I noticed he was gaining on me and was just about behind me (it was like a horror film in an alley!! I kid you not!!!). And then he spoke…”excuse me”. And I said “yes” with my most pleasant I-didn’t-mean-to-run-you-off-the-road-or-whatever-horrible-thing-I-did expression. And he said “I noticed your Run Disney sticker…have you run one of the Disney marathons before”? I almost fell on the concrete y’all from the anticipation and then confusion. I said “huh?” And then I was like…ummm no…a friend of mine brought it to me but I was seriously considering running there this year until I realized it was in January. So he said he was registered for January…blah blah blah….have a good day.

So that has nothing to do with anything but it was so funny…and ironic that it was the same song.

Tomorrow is the WMU Mission 5k. I am excited…the t shirts are SWEEEEEET! If you did not register you can tomorrow at 8:30am at South Smithfield Elementary….and we will probably place a late t shirt order if folks want one after the fact. I only ordered 10 extras so I wouldn’t waste money.

And in case I am crazy busy tomorrow between the 5k and baseball and my daddy coming to visit…here is my Oct 15th memory verse.

Ps 55:22 (NIV)
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall”.

Amen!

In Him,
Kristy

Howdy!

I am repeating my last scripture because I did not get it down yet!

Isa 41:10 NIV"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand".

SMC - Sep 15 2011

Running late...still at work!

Isa 41:10 NIV
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand".

Amen ladies...

SMC - Sept 1 2011

Happy Thursday! I can’t believe it is Scripture Memory day already!!

On a side note…cause I like to digress…I am already half way through the new book. It is really good. I have highlighted something on about every other page. And I have been sending quotes to my “quote buddy” left and right. Finally I gave up and took this picture and sent it…cause I wanted to text the entire paragraph but I knew that would take me 3 hours on my smarty pants phone (and that assumed I would remain in Princeton while I typed lol) Check out the pink line…

Can you quote it ladies???? (nice lead in, huh?)

My memory verse today is:
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

I need to pray this daily…continuously. Sometimes I can feel myself losing my focus on Jesus. It’s very clear when things are out of control and I am spazzing too. And I know that it is because my heart gets cluttered with the world and the people of the world. Once my focus returns to HIM…no matter what is going on around me…I feel the peace. And I know without a doubt who is in control and I praise HIM for it!

What’s your verse?

And if you were missing a reason to be thankful today…there you have it…that you are not my quote buddy when I am elbow deep in a convicting book that I want to share with the world…haha

And PS – last night was my last night teaching Acteens…don’t faint…but I think I am going to miss it!!! I have come to love those girls and they have taught me so much in our 10 weeks together! I have truly been blessed from the experience.

Be a blessing ladies!

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - August 15 2011

I cannot believe it is already August 15th! Where does the time go?

I finished my Summer Bible Study homework last night. I am so silly…it makes me so sad to finish a study and move on. And I know that is crazy…but it is me. We meet tomorrow night to discuss the last week…and let me tell you how TIMELY my God is! The study was about finding the delight in time with God rather than seeing it as a duty. And it was really good…the first 5 weeks did an excellent job laying out that topic. The material was nothing I didn’t know already but it was presented in a unique way and it was a nice reminder/encouragement!

Then week 6 was random…and y’all it made me cry. She starts out the homework by saying that she has no clue why she is including a week of homework on spiritual warfare when it wasn’t really related to the topic…well I will tell you why she included it…I NEEDED IT LAST WEEK!!! It brought tears of praise to my eyes! I have never felt more humbled at God’s perfect timing and perfect provision. He gave me exactly what I needed to hear on exactly the week I needed to hear it. It was scary crazy! We started the Bible study exactly one week later than the original schedule…so I know without a doubt it was God’s plan for her to write that week of homework JUST FOR ME! Because in a week where I felt spiritual warfare all around me and in almost every conversation I had…I needed to keep my face planted in Eph 6! And stand on His Word to get me through it! And last night all the pieces came together and satan was rebuked. Praise Jesus!

OK…so I am the random one today…back to the task at hand…Scripture Memory!!!! Woohooo!

This week I choose Joshua 3:5 NIV “Joshua told the people “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you”.

Ladies….He is amazing and He alone can and will do AMAZING things among you…IF you seek Him wholeheartedly and live by His Word.

Pray for me (and our other church leaders) this week if you have a spare minute…church leadership can wear on you this time of year…but I rest in knowing that the new year is coming…and God has BIG plans for our church!

SMC - August 1 2011

My verse this time comes from the Charlotte LPL with Beth Moore.

Rev 3:11 (NIV)
"I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown."

I think this was in the section where she talked about "S" - satan wants what you have (but I might be wrong). At any rate I think it was the point I mostly related to because I fight satan daily to hold on to what I have. I am sure you fight daily as well. We all fight different fights but the enemy is probably the same. And our weapons should be the same (Eph 6:10-20). And one of those crucial weapons is "the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God" (vs 17b). When satan tempted Jesus in Matthew chapter 4...Jesus answered his every temptation by quoting scripture. It was one of the most powerful weapons that Jesus used to combat satan.

So if you are not actively memorizing or at least meditating God's Word...then you are short a weapon...a very crucial weapon and satan knows it! You are vulnerable to the enemy.

So....what's your verse this time? ;)

Hold on to what you have...ladies!

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - July 15th 2011

Happy Friday Ladies!

I have decided I am done learning the Love series because after verse 7 it's not all about Love anymore. And if you remember the reason I was learning it was because in the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan, he had challenged us to replace the word "love" with our name because we were supposed to represent love to the world. So after the very first part of verse 8...Love never fails...there isn't any love talk left to be replacing my name with...haha

So today I am moving to Eph 1:4. This one came from last week's summer bible study series I am hosting at my house, "Duty or Delight?" by Tammie Head. It is a truth that we need to know without a shadow of a doubt so that we can be confident in God's love for us.

"For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight." Eph 1:4 (NIV)

Soak that in...he CHOSE us. We did not choose him. He chose us all along...knowing every sin we would committ, every bad choice we would decide...He knew all that we would say and do in life and still chose us before he even created the world. Mind boggling to say the least!

So live today knowing that God chose you FIRST...makes you smile doesn't it????

Let's hear your verses!

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - July 1st 2011

Happy 1st of July!!! and FRIDAY!!!

Hope everyone will have a safe and happy 4th of July as well. I have to work on the 4th but hopefully not all day!

I am continuing learning the love series from 1 Cor 13. I am going to try and do verses 6 and 7 this time so I can finish up on the 15th with verse 8.

1 Cor 13:6-7 (NIV)
"Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. "

Let's hear your verses!

In Him,
Kristy =)

smc - June 15th 2011

Good morning ladies!
I hope everyone is having an awesome week and is ready to be at church tonight to get filled up to survive until the weekend! I don't know how folks make it each week with no Wednesday night service. If you don't have a Wed service...find one! ha

OK...not much time to chat today...so here we go...I am continuing my 1 Cor 13 LOVE passages this time.

1 Cor 13:5 “It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. ” (NIV)

Let's hear your verses!

Stay in His Word!

Kristy

SMC - June 1st 2011

My scripture is going to be a series…one verse at a time =)

1 Cor 13:4
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

I plan to go through verse 8 eventually unless God changes my mind. Here is why…some of you heard me say this during the Sunday evening worship service this week. Sorry you can skip to the bottom =).

I think I told y’all I am reading “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. And I am pretty sure I posted about the whole Massey Tire come to Jesus meeting tears flying episode last week with the 4 toe stomping quotes I read while there. Well the other piece of the puzzle is this…Francis speaks of how we are to represent Love. God is Love and we are to live as Christ therefore to live as Love would live. Francis references a bunch of scriptures that you just have to trust me on to support that point because I did not write them down. Then Francis challenged us (yes we are on 1st names…haha not) to read 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verses 4-8 and insert our name in the place of the word Love. Because if we truly represent LOVE then we should be interchangeable with the word…easy enough I thought. So I started…Kristy is patient (bahhhahahahaha), Kristy is kind, Kristy does not envy, Kristy does not boast, Kristy is not proud….

You get the point. And if you read my devotion for the JBA luncheon you know that the last phrases sent cold chills down my spine. The giggles stopped and the tears started. I never finished through verse 8! OUCH is all I can say!!! So I decided since God was clearly ripping my heart out with it that maybe I should learn these verses and LIVE THEM. Hopefully it will be easier to live it if it is etched in my brain and heart!!

So let’s hear your verse! If you don’t have one…use mine!

In Him,
Kristy =)

See ya tonight…it is Wednesday!!!! Praise the Lord for church night!!!!

SMC - May 15th (a little late!)

OK...so I admit that I had NO CLUE it was already May 15th yesterday! LOL Only this morning when my computer booted up and reminded me to post the smc verse did I realize I was late! It is a theme for me today apparently because my running partner was patiently waiting when Travis kicked me 15 minutes AFTER my clock was supposed to have gone off. Someone had turned down the volume all the way so it was playing just on mute! ahhhhh! But nonetheless...3 miles are behind us and Monday has started!

This time I choose Psalm 53:2. It has been on my list for a while. I think Billie preached on it a while back...noting that God is always looking down to see who on earth is seeking Him. And y'all know I want so bad to be a woman after God's own heart! So this little gem will remind me...to seek Him in everything because He is ALWAYS looking for someone that "gets it" and I don't want Him to pick someone else! (Yeah...I know...the "I gotta be the teacher's pet" thing just went through my mind too...I told y'all I was Miss Goodie Goodie haha).

Ps 53:2 (NIV)
God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

Let's hear your verses!

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - May 1

OK girls...it is that time again! I have to confess...I have struggled greatly picking out my verse this month. I had narrowed it down to four but could not decide and then when I went to Beth Moore's blog to draw straws for which one to post...she had this one and I felt this was a good choice! So I still have my four on stand by for future use...lol

Ps 27:14 ” Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord”. (NIV)

Beth used a different version in which "wait" was translated "rely". I liked it too, but when I saw the NIV translation...it just stuck with me. Because I struggle with the whole "wait" concept. Sometimes I forget to wait on the Lord for instruction and things go incredibly WRONG! And then sometimes I wait for the Lord but don't do anything while I am waiting and things go incredibly WRONG. I need the balance...wait for the Lord but continue to seek Him and pray for direction while I "wait"! In most places the word "wait" is used in the Bible it is an action verb...meaning doing something while you "wait"! So y'all pray I can "actively wait" on the Lord and bring Him glory.

Let's hear your verses! Bless someone this week!

In Him,
Kristy =)

PS - I also want to fess up that I am still working on last time's verse. It was a little harder for me...so I don't have it perfect yet. Let that encourage you...keep trying and don't give up. You will never ever waste a minute on memorizing God's Word. Just the shear discipline of trying to memorize it allows you to meditate on it...which absolutely does a heart good! Amen? Love you ladies!

SMC - April 15th

Good Morning! Happy Friday!!!! Can I get an amen? What a week! I am so ready for the weekend…mainly because I love the tea party!!! Don’t forget 10am tomorrow and you are ALL invited!

I went back and forth between several but finally decided that my scripture memory verse this time is 1Cor 15:58 from the NIV. “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Mainly because today I need reminding to give myself fully to the work of the Lord…it is so easy to forget that command. Sometimes we give PART of ourselves to the work of the Lord. Sometimes we give NONE of ourselves. And then sometimes we give ALL. And wow is the blessing different in proportion to the amount we give ourselves!

I get caught up in the trap of looking at what other folks “do” for our church and community and that is a dangerous, skillful, hunting tactic in which the enemy sets up for us. All it takes is a little seed that the enemy plants that you can look around and ask yourself “if no one else is giving themselves fully to the work of the Lord, why should I?” And at that moment…sin creeps in. You become half-hearted, or complacent, or defiant, or lazy, or whatever…but not FULLY devoted! And you lose blessings. We must STAND FIRM!

Sometimes I wonder if there is a storeroom in heaven that says ‘Kristy’s missed blessings”, kind of like a warehouse but larger than you can imagine. And what if when I stand for judgment (as the Bible tells us everyone will), God shows me the blessings that I missed out on because I disobeyed, served half-hearted, etc. Because I believe a form of punishment is withholding of blessings! For that moment I will grieve what cannot be undone. Then Jesus will stand in front of me so that God only sees only Jesus, the Sacrificial Lamb. And I will enter heaven (redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb who was slain for my sins) where grieving does not exist (Praise Him!).

So I am learning this verse so it can remind me…stay FULLY devoted to the Lord’s work…no matter what anyone else is doing…stay FULLY committed! I am only judged for myself...not myself compared to others! hallelujah!

Let’s hear your verses! Feel free to use mine!

In Him,
Kristy

And remember the disclaimer…the words in this blog do not necessarily represent the beliefs of the staff at WMBC! And I am quite certain these words are never stated as eloquently as the staff would state them…haha =)

SMC - April 1 2011

Good Morning everyone!

I am so excited to be starting back the Scripture Memory Challenge posts. If you want to participate it is very easy. Just post the scripture that you will be learning and your name. Then learn it before we post another one on the 15th of the month! You do NOT have to be a member of our church to memorize scripture with us! And there is no shame or condemnation allowed on this blog! If it takes more than one cycle for you to learn...that is perfectly fine...just keep trying! I will be praying for the Lord to do a mighty work in your life surrounding your verse. You will NEVER waste a single minute on scripture memory...He will bless your obedience!

I will never forget my first memory verse...Ps 150:6 "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!". I have remembered it many times when I did not feel like praising...but through it God reminded me...EVERYTHING must praise the Lord! And my spirit lifted immediately!

For those of you that know me well know that I feel VERY strongly about putting God's Word in your head and your heart! How many times can you quote something your "momma used to say" or your "children always say"? The reason you can quote them is because you spend (or spent) large amounts of time talking with them and listening to them. One could ask that if you truly "love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30 if you are wondering...hehe)...are you investing appropriate time in building a personal relationship with Jesus? A more personal relationship than with your spouse, children, parents, etc! Do you know things that "Jesus used to say"? And do you apply them in daily life? Ouch...

So my verse this time is:

Phil 2:3 (NIV)
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. "

Let's hear your verses! And be a blessing to someone today!

In Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - Dec 15th

I wanted to go ahead and post early because tomorrow I have a crazy day!

My verse this time is: James 2:19 "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder." (NIV)

I love this verse. It is one that I semi-quote a lot, but I never can remember WHERE it is located! So this one I am going to be able to quote fully and tell you where to find it!

Every time I read it I imagine satan shudder like a cool breeze blows through hell. And then I realize if the name of the Lord makes satan shudder...it better put a little quake in me too! I think a lot of times we lose the "fear of God". Not like an "oh no I am going to get beat or murdered kind of fear" but a more healthy "He loves me enough to discipline me and let me make my own choices even if they are disastrous and I wish I could take it back" kind of fear ;)

We believe that the "compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness" God (Ps 86:15 a prior memory verse! woohoo) is so forgiving and understanding that we need not "fear" Him. And I think that is a lot of what is wrong with us as Christians today. If we feared God the way we should...we would behave more like the Christians Paul coaches us on how to be (Eph) and less like the world. By taking the "fear of God" out of the equation...we just blend in...and this leads to destruction! =) Look at your actions and reactions...do folks see that you "fear God"? Or do you react to situations like a lost person? Do people see you react like a person with no respect or love for the God that created her...a person who does not care how their words or actions affect others...do you "fear" God?

He loves you more than anything in the world that He created...but He commands fear and respect and love and an intimate relationship...and I have learned the hard way that you can't have the relationship without the others! So take it from a sista who has been there and tried it!

Enough of that...let's hear your verses!
Fearing Him,
Kristy =)

SMC - Dec 1st

The next two weeks I want to focus on reviewing everything in my memory binder. For a long time I recited them weekly, and lately I have not been disciplined in doing that. So I am not picking a new one this week. I want to master some of my previous ones that I only partially have memorized or haven't quite gotten down. If you have been a little slack about fully learning your past verses then I challenge you to do the same. Or...let's hear your new verse! =) Either way...check in!

In Him,
Kristy
